You’re probably aware of the trend of calling middle-aged, entitled white women “Karen,” but you might not know that the practice began in the black community.
They used the term “Karen” to describe women who used casual racism to keep them down in the workplace (or elsewhere in society), and once you understand that, you can see why people were a wee bit upset about this (middle-aged, wealthy white) woman suggesting that the term is some kind of slur.
Does anyone else think the ‘Karen’ slur is woman hating and based on class prejudice?

The community who understands what it’s like to be on the wrong side of actual slurs took, well…offense.

11. Because woman hating might not look like you think it does.
Karen as a woman hating slur is bullsh^t. But let me help y’all understand what ‘woman hating’ looks like against black women. You’re welcome. No need to thank me. https://t.co/SFyZVdFFLA

9. How many times can we say terrible?
I don’t know you, but seriously what is WRONG with you???
This is not okay. You aren’t from the U.S. so maybe you don’t understand how terrible this is, but I’m here to tell you, it’s terrible.
If you would like me to elaborate, I’m happy to, but somehow I doubt you even care.

5. And I don’t see anything wrong with that.
Yes. “Karen” is intended to mock the class of the bourgeoisie as monolithic, superficial, oblivion of their privilege, and obsessed with asserting their place in the upper hierarchy of our society’s class structure. Hope this helps. pic.twitter.com/N4VfeVQkJR

4. Excellent use of this GIF.
People are dying Karen. DYING. And yet somehow white women like you can somehow make this about a irrelevant gripe that NO ONE is f*cking talking about. Thank God we’re all in the house so you can’t call the police or the manager on us. Go wash your hands and your legs and shoo pic.twitter.com/u3HYagkTUx

Seriously, some people just need to accept the fact that they have privilege and stop complaining about how other people are handling the status quo.
Do you think Karen is wrong to call someone? Do you think the original poster is wrong?
Let’s talk about it in the comments!
