12 Responses to Woman Wondering Whether Calling Someone a “Karen” Is Classist and Misogynist

You’re probably aware of the trend of calling middle-aged, entitled white women “Karen,” but you might not know that the practice began in the black community.

They used the term “Karen” to describe women who used casual racism to keep them down in the workplace (or elsewhere in society), and once you understand that, you can see why people were a wee bit upset about this (middle-aged, wealthy white) woman suggesting that the term is some kind of slur.

The community who understands what it’s like to be on the wrong side of actual slurs took, well…offense.

1. Accurate.

Seriously, some people just need to accept the fact that they have privilege and stop complaining about how other people are handling the status quo.

Do you think Karen is wrong to call someone? Do you think the original poster is wrong?

Let’s talk about it in the comments!
