Comic Shows What It’s like to Live with Depression and Anxiety

If you’ve ever considered yourself a bit socially awkward, chances are you’ve gotten a chuckle out of the empathetic comic series The Awkward Yeti. In it, a yeti named Lars tries to navigate a world that doesn’t quite fit him. Cartoonist Nick Seluk created the loveable character in 2012. After a series of books, comics and cartoons, Lars popularity took off on Facebook. His stardom helped launch Seluk’s other regular series, Heart and Brain, which he fills with his signature brand of psychological, warm humor.

From time to time, Seluk also produces random strips to help us more clearly see the human condition, both in ourselves and in others.

Recently, a teen reader reached out and expressed to Seluk her frustrations at dealing with depression and anxiety for most of her young life. She wanted a way to explain her feelings and to help others explain how they felt. In response, Seluk came up with a series that not only nails the experience of living with depression and anxiety, but does it in his gentle, humorous style.

Illustrations tell stories, and this is one story that should be shared and talked about as often as possible.
