Who doesn’t love a good romantic comedy, right? Sure, they’re predictable and light and fluffy, but let’s face it – there are than a few reasons that life regularly calls for exactly that.
When you’re looking for happy, fulfilling, expected, and funny, well, you just can’t beat a good rom-com. They always deliver on their promises, and in this day and age, that’s really saying something.
It turns out that your favorite romantic comedy could have something to do with where you live, though, and this handy-dandy map details every state’s favorite one.
The favorite overall is The 40-Year-Old Virgin – 19 states listed it as their all-time fav, including Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
In second place, the favorite in 11 states, is Bridesmaids, with votes from Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
Judd Apatow was involved in both, so apparently we really love him all across the country!
The rest of the choices were scattered and few, and some totally interesting options when it comes to picking a classic romantic comedy.
13 Going on 30 was the winner in 4 states – Alabama, Louisiana, Oregon, and Washington.
500 Days of Summer (is this a rom-com, really?) also gathered votes from 4 states – California, Colorado, Rhode Island, and Wyoming.
Wedding Crashers (legit funny!) came in 5th with a win in 3 states – Maryland, Kansas, and Connecticut.
New Hampshire and Arkansas loved My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Enchanted (Nebraska; they’re so wholesome!) and Amelie (Delaware) won just one state apiece, and so did Bridget Jones’ Diary (Montana), Under the Tuscan Sun (Hawaii), Juno (North Dakota), Chocolat (Indiana), and Love Actually (Hawaii).
I’ve gotta say, I love a good romantic comedy as much as the next person, but I’m old enough to wave my film degree and rage that nothing by or involving Nora Ephron was listed here.
Because y’all, I’m sorry, but When Harry Met Sally belongs on every list, ever.
What would your vote be? Does your taste line up with the rest of your state?
