The Americans with Disabilities Act guarantees that people who need service animals the right to bring their trained service dogs with them everywhere they go, but many people who just want to bring their dog along are taking advantage of it, too.

Basically, unruly dogs who aren’t truly trained service dogs can create a negative public sentiment for the ones doing real work, leading people who need their dogs to go about their daily activities to be unnecessarily hassled by those same frustrated businesses.

Not only that, but people should know that dogs who are working should not be interrupted, distracted, or petted. If there are others allowing their dogs to receive public attention, it can cause confusion or even harassment when they encounter a service dog who ignores them (as they’re supposed to).

Just don’t lie, y’all. I love my dog as much as the next person, but I promise they’ll be fine waiting in the car (weather permitting), tied up outside (if you can see them), or at home where they feel comfortable.
